1-Week CELPIP Study Plan: Last-Minute Crash Course

Only 7 days until your CELPIP test? This day-by-day study plan maximizes your score improvement with focused practice on what matters most.

Your CELPIP test is in one week. Don't panic โ€” you can still make significant improvements with a focused, strategic study plan. This crash course targets the highest-impact areas for rapid score improvement.

Before You Start: Quick Assessment

Before diving in, take 15 minutes to identify your weak spots:

  1. Take our free CLB assessment โ†’ to get your baseline level
  2. Note which sections score lowest โ€” that's where you focus first
  3. Be honest about your weaknesses (most students overestimate their Speaking and Writing)

The 80/20 rule: Spend 80% of your time on your two weakest sections and 20% maintaining your strong ones.

Day 1 (Monday): Writing Mastery

Time: 2-3 hours

Morning: Task 1 โ€” Email Writing (90 min)

  1. Learn the template (15 min): Read our Writing Score 9+ guide and memorize the email template
  2. Practice 2 timed emails (54 min): Write each in 27 minutes โ€” strict timer!
  3. Review with AI feedback (20 min): Submit to our AI Writing Tutor โ†’ and study the feedback

Afternoon: Task 2 โ€” Survey Response (90 min)

  1. Learn the template (15 min): Memorize the survey response structure
  2. Practice 2 timed responses (52 min): 26 minutes each
  3. Build your vocabulary bank (20 min): Note 10 advanced words from the AI feedback and practice using them

Day 1 Vocabulary Goal: Learn these transitions โ€” furthermore, consequently, nevertheless, moreover, in addition, specifically, particularly

Day 2 (Tuesday): Speaking Foundation

Time: 2-3 hours

Morning: Templates & Practice (90 min)

  1. Memorize universal template (20 min): Opening โ†’ Point 1 + Detail โ†’ Point 2 + Detail โ†’ Closing
  2. Practice Tasks 1, 2, 3 (45 min): Record yourself, review, repeat
  3. Pronunciation drill (25 min): Practice word stress patterns and th/r/l sounds

Afternoon: Advanced Tasks (90 min)

  1. Practice Tasks 5, 6, 7 (45 min): These are the hardest โ€” persuading, complaining, opinions
  2. Vocabulary expansion (20 min): Replace "good/bad/important" with advanced synonyms
  3. Record and self-evaluate (25 min): Listen back โ€” are you filling the full time? Any long pauses?

Day 2 Goal: Be able to speak for the full duration of every task without going silent.

Day 3 (Wednesday): Listening Strategy

Time: 2 hours

Full Practice Session (120 min)

  1. Read-before-listen drill (30 min): Practice reading questions quickly and identifying keywords BEFORE playing audio
  2. Practice all 6 part types (60 min): Use our Listening practice โ†’ with one-play audio
  3. Review mistakes (30 min): For every wrong answer, go back and identify WHY you missed it:
    • Didn't hear a key word? โ†’ Vocabulary issue
    • Heard it but chose wrong? โ†’ Comprehension issue
    • Ran out of time? โ†’ Speed issue

Day 3 Listening Hacks:

  • Keywords in questions are your GPS โ€” listen specifically for them
  • If two answers seem correct, the more specific one is usually right
  • "All of the above" is rarely the answer on CELPIP
  • Pay attention to tone โ€” sarcasm and emphasis change meaning

Day 4 (Thursday): Reading Speed

Time: 2 hours

Speed Reading Practice (120 min)

  1. Skim-and-scan drill (40 min): Practice reading questions first, then scanning the passage for answers
  2. Time yourself on all 4 parts (60 min): Aim for 13-15 minutes per part โ€” use our Reading practice โ†’
  3. "Almost right" elimination (20 min): For questions you got wrong, study the distractors โ€” learn to spot "almost right" answers that are actually wrong

Day 4 Reading Strategy:

  • Part 1 (Correspondence): Focus on the PURPOSE of each email
  • Part 2 (Diagram): Match text details to visual elements precisely
  • Part 3 (Information): Skim for structure first (headings, first sentences of paragraphs)
  • Part 4 (Viewpoints): Track which author says what โ€” they disagree!

Day 5 (Friday): Weak Section Deep Dive

Time: 3 hours

Today is entirely dedicated to your weakest section. Whatever scored lowest on Day 1's assessment:

If Writing is weakest:

  • Write 4 more timed responses (2 emails + 2 surveys)
  • Focus on the AI feedback: what errors keep repeating?
  • Memorize 5 new advanced collocations

If Speaking is weakest:

  • Record 8 practice responses (one per task type)
  • Listen back to every recording โ€” identify patterns
  • Practice filler phrases: "What I mean by that is..." "Let me elaborate..."

If Listening is weakest:

  • Do 3 full Listening practice sets
  • Practice note-taking on the erasable notepad
  • Watch Canadian news (CBC) for 30 minutes โ€” train your ear

If Reading is weakest:

  • Do 3 full Reading practice sets with strict time limits
  • Practice paragraph-first reading (read first sentence of each paragraph to get structure)
  • Work on vocabulary โ€” unknown words slow you down

Day 6 (Saturday): Full Simulation

Time: 3 hours

Mock Test (180 min)

  1. Simulate the real test environment:

    • Find a quiet room
    • No phone, no interruptions
    • Use a timer for each section
    • No breaks between sections (or only the breaks CELPIP allows)
  2. Take the full mock exam:

    • Listening: ~50 min
    • Reading: ~55 min
    • Writing: ~53 min
    • Speaking: ~20 min
  3. Score yourself honestly. Use the AI evaluations for Writing and Speaking.

  4. Identify final weak spots โ€” these are your targets for tomorrow.

Take a Mock Exam โ†’ with AI scoring and CLB estimate.

Day 7 (Sunday โ€” Test Eve): Light Review

Time: 1-2 hours only

DO:

  • Review your templates one last time (don't try to learn new ones)
  • Review your vocabulary bank โ€” read through your advanced words list
  • Do 1-2 light practice exercises just to stay sharp
  • Prepare your test-day kit: valid ID, test centre address, comfortable clothes
  • Go to bed early โ€” sleep is more valuable than extra study

DON'T:

  • Cram new material (your brain needs time to consolidate)
  • Practice for more than 2 hours (diminishing returns + fatigue)
  • Stay up late studying (lack of sleep hurts performance more than any amount of studying helps)
  • Panic (you've put in the work โ€” trust the preparation)

Test Day Checklist

  • โ˜ Valid photo ID (passport preferred)
  • โ˜ Test centre address (arrive 30 minutes early)
  • โ˜ Comfortable clothing (you'll sit for 3 hours)
  • โ˜ Water bottle (if allowed at your centre)
  • โ˜ Confidence (you've prepared โ€” now execute)

During the test:

  • Use ALL available time for each section
  • Don't rush โ€” accuracy beats speed
  • In Speaking, NEVER go silent โ€” say anything
  • In Writing, leave 2-3 minutes to review for typos
  • In Listening, read questions BEFORE the audio starts
  • In Reading, answer easy questions first, skip and return to hard ones

One Week From Now

If you follow this plan consistently, you can realistically improve 1-2 CLB levels in a week. The students who improve most are the ones who:

  1. Identified their specific weak spots
  2. Practiced with timed conditions
  3. Got feedback on every practice attempt
  4. Fixed specific errors instead of "studying generally"
